Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Police state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then found numerous other marked cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say preliminary tests show the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its source; officials are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A high-ranking political figure commented the incident rendered him without words and had to be solved promptly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he posted on online, referring to the death of nine people by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in five years prior.
