From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to begin their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.
This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.
That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might look mismatched, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team knows exactly where to head next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the secret base, striking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.
The traitor then cleared his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the region and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
- The warrior and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- However, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the group access places they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The fighter pledged a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
- The warrior and The healer turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This means them few options but to journey toward the northern region in quest for Casimir.
